Jubail Commercial Port Berth Expansion
The Jubail Commercial Port Berth Expansion project was a critical infrastructure development aimed at enhancing the capacity and operational efficiency of one of Saudi Arabia's most important commercial ports. Mohammed Eid Al-Dossary was contracted to execute comprehensive onshore-offshore works, collaborating with China Geo-Engineering Saudi Trading Service Co. LTD to deliver this strategically important maritime infrastructure.
Key Achievements
- Successfully completed 1.2 km of new berth structure with 14m water depth capacity
- Installed 78 reinforced concrete caissons, each weighing approximately 3,200 tons
- Executed precision dredging operations removing over 2.5 million cubic meters of material
- Constructed new quay walls with seismic-resistant design meeting international standards
- Completed project 3 weeks ahead of schedule despite challenging marine conditions
Technologies Used
The project employed cutting-edge marine construction technologies including GPS-controlled dredging equipment, underwater concrete placement systems, and advanced corrosion protection for marine structures. BIM was utilized for all structural elements to ensure precise fabrication and installation. Specialized marine construction vessels were deployed for heavy lift operations, and real-time environmental monitoring ensured minimal ecological impact during construction.
Project Impact
The Jubail Commercial Port Berth Expansion has significantly enhanced the port's capacity to handle larger vessels and increased cargo throughput by approximately 40%. This expansion supports Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 goals by strengthening the Kingdom's position as a global logistics hub. The project has created new economic opportunities in the Eastern Province and improved efficiency for import/export operations across multiple industries.
