RABIGH 2 Independent Power Plant

The RABIGH 2 Independent Power Plant (IPP2) is a large-scale infrastructure project located on the western coast of Saudi Arabia. This power station is a critical part of the Kingdom's energy diversification and infrastructure enhancement strategy. Mohammed Eid Al-Dossary was contracted to execute foundational infrastructure works for Units 1, 3, and 5, in partnership with global EPC contractor Samsung C&T.

Key Achievements

  • Constructed 22 km of dual carriageway roads, complete with integrated cycling and pedestrian pathways
  • Installed over 15 km of advanced stormwater drainage and groundwater control systems
  • Implemented smart street lighting systems using solar-powered and energy-efficient LED technologies
  • Completed full utility diversion and underground service relocation without service disruptions
  • Maintained an impeccable safety record with zero Lost Time Injuries (LTI) across more than 1,000,000 work hours

Technologies Used

The project adopted state-of-the-art methodologies to ensure quality, efficiency, and environmental sustainability. BIM (Building Information Modeling) was utilized for clash detection and coordinated design review. GPS-enabled earthmoving equipment allowed for high-precision grading, while eco-friendly materials such as recycled asphalt and low-carbon concrete helped reduce environmental impact. A rigorous QA/QC program ensured 98.7% specification compliance.

Project Impact

The RABIGH 2 Power Plant project has significantly enhanced the region’s energy reliability and infrastructure resilience. The new infrastructure has improved transportation and logistics access within the industrial area, reduced flooding risks due to improved drainage, and contributed to regional economic development. The project directly supported the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 objectives by boosting energy capacity while adhering to international sustainability standards.
